THE HAGUE, Wednesday - Friesland has formed a coalition, the last province to do so. All 12 provinces now have a new administration. The provincial elections were held on 7 March. The composition of the Upper House will be drawn up on 29 May based on the results. This is generally seen as more influential than the provinces, but the latter do have much authority regarding nature policy and on whether or not building projects like motorways should go ahead. Remarkably, the Socialist Party (SP) has landed up outside the administration in all provinces, despite winning many votes. Labour (PvdA) and the Christian democrats (CDA) dominate in most provinces, with the conservatives (VVD) and ChristenUnie also counting for something here and there. Friesland will be administered for the next four years by CDA, PvdA and ChristenUnie. CDA and PvdA did not need a third party for a majority but decided to copy the national government. |
