Netherlands to Contribute to Kosovo Police Mission

THE HAGUE, Wednesday - The Netherlands is considering supplying 40 to 60 people for an European reconstruction mission in Kosovo.

A resolution to be discussed by the UN Security Council in June is expected to provide the mandate for the mission, according to Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen. He writes to the Lower House that he will give it more details of the Dutch contribution when the mission is agreed.

The non-military mission will take over part of the tasks of the present UN mission, UNMIK. It will focus on building up the police, judiciary and customs in the Balkan region. Verhagen expects the mission to be able to start in October.
