Dissatisfaction with Netherlands Boosts Emigration

AMSTERDAM, Thursday - A growing number of the Dutch are considering emigration. Dissatisfaction with Dutch society is increasingly a factor in this, the Emigration Monitor shows.

Where 26 percent of the population were seriously considering emigration last August, this figure has risen to 32 percent in February. The main reason for considering emigration is a previous holiday (28 percent) in the country in question. However, the behaviour of fellow citizens and feelings of insecurity are now arguments for leaving the Netherlands for 20 percent. Eighteen months ago, only 11 percent gave this reason, the survey observed.

Positive experiences of family or friends who have emigrated are also a growing reason for considering leaving the Netherlands. Work experience abroad as a student or youth programmes organised by emigration countries are other reasons for later emigration.

Spain heads the list of popular emigration countries in Europe, at 8 percent. It is followed by France (7 percent), Germany (6 percent), Belgium and Italy (both 4 percent) and Norway (3 percent). Outside Europe, Australia is number one at 11 percent, followed by New Zealand (8 percent), the US (6 percent) and Canada (5 percent).

The Emigration Monitor is carried out by RM Interactive on behalf of Buysse Immigration. This company specialises in visa applications for the US and Australia.
