Dutch Investors' Average Holdings Worth 70,000 Euros

AMSTERDAM, 29/06/06 - Dutch private investors had combined invested capital of 105 billion euros this spring. Per investor, estimated at 1.5 million individuals, this indicates average holdings worth 70,000 euros.

The figures were published yesterday by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). This is the first time DNB has assembled detailed figures on investments built up in shares and bonds by Dutch private investors. The supervisory body plans to publish the calculations every quarter in future.

Of the 105 billion euros, around 75 billion was invested in Dutch and the remaining quarter in foreign securities. Investing in Dutch listed companies is most popular, claiming some 29 billion euros. Around 80 percent of that amount was invested in companies in the Amsterdam bourse's most important AEX index. Dutch private investors own about 5 percent of AEX companies.

The Dutch also put substantial funds in investment funds, nearly 28 billion euros. These funds often spread their money between the stock and bond market and mixed funds. The invested sum is however relatively large because this category also includes the money managed by pension funds and insurance companies for their clients.
