| Former CDA MP Linked with Terrorist Organisation | |
THE HAGUE, 29/04/08 - Former Christian democratic (CDA) MP Henk de Haan works for a terrorist organisation. He is chairman of the Dutch Group of Friends of a Free Iran (FOFI), De Telegraaf reports. FOFI is affiliated to the People's Mujahedin Organisation of Iran, the PMOI. This group is on the EU list of banned terrorist groups. As chairman of FOFI, he is fighting for the removal of the ban on PMOI. The former MP, who left the House in 2006, concedes that he has linked himself to a terrorist group. "That is in fact correct. I am completely aware of it. But I cannot accept injustice." According to De Haan, PMOI got on the list as a result of horse-trading, and has also improved its life. "Earlier, they were indeed no angels," De Haan acknowledges," but in the meantime, they have laid down their arms." In the newspaper, Socialist Party (SP) MP Van Bommel called it "bizarre that such a prominent CDA member has taken this post." De Haan was in the past chairman of the parliamentary standing committee for foreign affairs. | |
