Netherlands, Singapore to Exchange Fiscal Info

THE HAGUE, 28/08/09 - Finance State Secretary Jan Kees de Jager has signed a treaty with Singapore for the exchange of fiscal information. He envisages being able to catch 'black' savers as a result.

De Jager signed the treaty in The Hague along with Singapore Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. "This means tax evasion, fraud, money-laundering and financing of terrorism can be tackled."

The treaty comes into effect after it has been ratified in both countries. "The Netherlands expects to sign a similar treaty shortly with Austria, and negotiations are also underway with Liechtenstein," De Jager added.
