| PVV Complains about Obamania in Dutch Public Broadcasting | |
THE HAGUE, 22/08/08 - The Party for Freedom (PVV) considers that public broadcaster NPS is giving a disproportionately large amount of attention to US presidential candidate Barack Obama and is thereby conveying a picture of Republican candidate John McCain having no chance in the race for the White House. TV programme NOVA will from Monday be broadcasting an Obama talk-show from the Democratic Convention daily from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m on the Nederland 3 channel. Presenter Joost Karhof is supported in Denver, Colorado by co-hosts Jorgen Raymann and Prem Radhakishun, both of Surinam origin, who do "colourful" street interviews. The Republican Convention, which takes place a week later in St. Paul, Minnesota, will however barely be covered. NOVA is sending 20 reporters to Denver on behalf of NPS, but only one to McCain. PVV MP Bosma has asked Education Minister Ronald Plasterk whether he, like the PVV, considers that the NPS is suffering from "blind love for Obama." According to Bosma, the government-funded NPS is breaking the media law, "which prescribes that public broadcasting must give a balanced picture of society." | |
