MAASTRICHT, 02/09/05 - The grandsons of the three allied leaders in World War II will visit Maastricht on 1 October. Jevgeni Jugashvili, Winston Churchill Jr. and Curtis Roosevelt will take part in a conference on Europe's development since the Treaty of Yalta was signed by their grandfathers. In the treaty, Joseph Jugashvili (better known as Stalin), Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt made agreements about the division of Europe after the defeat of the Nazis. "The treaty divided Europe, as the Treaty of Maastricht united Europe again at the end of the last century," said Director C. de Neuborg of the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, which is organising the conference to mark its opening. The conference will take place in the Maastricht congress centre MECC. De Neuborg said that the grandsons of Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin would join in a discussion with European politicians on the consequences of Yalta. The new Maastricht Graduate School of Governance is a partnership between all the faculties of Maastricht University. It will give courses for professionals and researchers from all over the world on subjects such as policy and political analysis and coping with risks.? | |
