Much Fewer Jobs to Disappear at Defence
THE HAGUE, 26/10/13 - Some 1,400 fewer jobs are to be axed at Defence than planned earlier. Instead of 2,400 jobs, just 1,000 are now to disappear, writes Defence Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert in a letter to parliament Friday.
Hennis reports that the logistics support ship Karel Doorman, which was to have been sold off, will for the time being be taken into service, in the first instance as a supply ship. Other countries have shown an interest in co-utilisation of the ship. In addition, a naval company will remain on Aruba and Leeuwarden airbase will retain its present tasks. Earlier, it had already become clear that the Johan Willem Friso barracks in Assen would remain open and the 45 Armoured Infantry Battalion would also continue to exist. |
