Minimum Wage for Flexi-Workers

THE HAGUE, 05/10/13 - Flexi-workers with a contractual agreement, like many postal delivery and newspaper delivery workers will have the right to the statutory minimum wage. A large majority in the Lower House will likely support a bill put forward by Social Affairs Minister Lodewijk Asscher.

The proposal concerns people who have no employment agreement, but work on the basis of a contractual agreement. They do in principle already have the right to the minimum wage, but there are currently still all kinds of options for the employer to circumvent this.

Centre-left D66, among others, is still showing some hesitation as it fears that the bill will cause problems for people that do small jobs for others as a friend for a small payment. But sources in The Hague say Asscher has meanwhile removed this fear.
