US Army to Test TenCate anti-Mines System

ALMELO, 13/09/13 - TenCate has signed a multi-year agreement with the research and development programme of the US army for the testing and further development of its so-called ABDS system, the Dutch technical textiles producer announced Thursday.

TenCate developers can now demonstrate that the ABDS system, with which the underneath of military vehicles is stabilised, can offer protection against the effects of mines, Improvised Explosive Devices and other explosives. TenCate said the US army will now co-finance the further development of the system, as a result of which the risks will be spread. The patent will remain in the hands of TenCate.

The agreement will run for at least three years, but this period can also become much longer, a spokesman said. On the possible future commercialisation of ABDS, there is nothing to say yet at this moment. “For us, this is an important next step.”
