Amsterdam Fails to Check Registration of Prostitutes
AMSTERDAM, 23/08/13 - Although Amsterdam sex workers have to register at the Chamber of Commerce as prostitutes by 1 September, the city council has not yet checked up on this.
Hitherto, sex workers were allowed to register at the Chamber of Commerce as ‘personal service provider’. To obtain a better view of the sex industry, Amsterdam decided that prostitutes must also register as such. The ladies of easy virtue however fear for their privacy and safety if they are registered by name in the trade register. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan is taking these concerns seriously and will meet with the Chamber of Commerce to discuss them, his spokeswoman said Thursday. Until then, the city council will not check the registration. |
