Dutch Embassy in Yemen Still Closed
THE HAGUE, 14/08/13 - The Dutch embassy in Yemen will remain closed until further notice, a foreign affairs ministry spokesman in The Hague has announced.
The diplomatic post has been closed since Saturday last week due to terrorist threats. On Thursday, all the embassy staff was brought back to the Netherlands. On Monday, it was thought that the embassy might be reopened, but this has not happened. The diplomats are handling ongoing matters from the ministry in The Hague. These include development aid projects. "The ambassador and his staff ar now working from The Hague,” said the spokesman. “As soon as the situation is safe, they will return to the capital of Sanaa.” He was unable to say when this might be. “It is not possible to make a good estimate at this time.” Earlier, the embassy had called on Dutch nationals in Yemen to leave the country as quickly as possible. About 20 Dutch nationals may still be there. |
