Premier and Minister Not Called as Witnesses as yet

THE HAGUE, 28/09/00 - The judiciary in The Hague will not as yet be summoning Prime Minister Wim Kok and Foreign Minister Jozias van Aartsen as witnesses in the case against two representatives of the Moluccan youth organization Vrije Molukse Jongeren.

The public prosecutor declared that Kok and Van Aartsen should not expect a summons for the time being. "Other investigative activities must be carried out first. It is not clear how long this will take," the attorney declared.

The two ministers would be most likely to be asked if they felt threatened by the announcement of tough action by the Moluccan spokesmen G. Makatita and P. Patty. The two men were arrested a fortnight ago on a charge including using threats of violence to force a decision from the Cabinet. The threats led to the implementation of tighter security measures on Princes Day.
