AMSTERDAM Lawyers Oscar Hammerstein and Gerard Spong are publishing a book about their case against politicians and journalists, who in their view incited hatred against Pim Fortuyn. It will hit the bookstores in two weeks. The book is entitled 'Sue them to hell.' With this instruction, Fortuyn apparently commissioned the two lawyers to sue certain people in the event that he was assassinated. The book, from publisher Balans, contains letters and official documents from the police and judiciary, Hammerstein disclosed yesterday. Following the murder of Fortuyn on 6 May, the lawyers entered their case, but Rotterdam district court decided not to take it up. The two have appealed, but the appeal court has not yet ruled. The lawyers' case is aimed at center-left (D66) leader Thom de Graaf, conservative (VVD) party chairman Bas Eenhoorn and former labour (PvdA) MP Rob Oudkerk, currently an alderman in Amsterdam. Journalists Marcel van Dam (Volkskrant daily), Matty Verkamman (Trouw) and the entire editorial staff of NRC Handelsblad are also accused of incitement to hatred. |
