KPN Accelerates 4G Rollout
AMSTERDAM, 19/06/13 - Telecom concern KPN now expects to be able to complete the rollout of the new 4G network in the Netherlands three months earlier than previously thought.
KPN expects that half of the Netherlands will be able to avail of the new network for rapid mobile Internet by 1 July. Coverage is to increase to 80 percent by 1 January 2014 and to 100 percent by 1 April 2014. KPN paid nearly 1.4 billion euros last December for frequencies suitable for offering 4G. With the accelerated rollout, the investment budget of up to 2.3 billion euros announced earlier for 2013 will not be exceeded, according to KPN. T-Mobile said earlier it will start its rollout of 4G in the Netherlands this autumn. Tele2 expects to begin next year at the earliest. Vodafone also obtained a frequency at the end of last year allowing it to offer rapid mobile Internet services in the Netherlands. |
