Kuwait Controls Amsterdam's Blue Mosque
AMSTERDAM, 28/05/13 - Kuwait holds the power in the Blue Mosque in Amsterdam. A top civil servant from the Ministry of Religious Affairs in that country has been appointed board chairman of the mosque, Het Parool newspaper reports.
"Since Tuesday, Mutlaq Alqarawi, affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood, has been registered at the Chamber of Commerce as chairman of Europe Trust Nederland, the owner of the building, which runs the mosque,” according to the report. Alqarawi, called Doctor Mutlaq by those involved, is assistant undersecretary in Kuwait. According to insiders, Alqarawi has held the sceptre at the mosque in the district of Slotervaart for some time. In minutes from a board meeting of August, obtained by Het Parool, he is named as mosque chairman. At this meeting, Alqarawi pressed for the recruitment of Dutch Islam converts. |
