Number of Euthanasia Clinic Teams to be Doubled
THE HAGUE, 25/05/13 - From 1 June, 30 mobile teams of doctors and nurses will handle euthanasia requests from throughout the Netherlands. Currently, there are 17 teams.
The teams are set up by the Netherlands Association for a Voluntary Ending of Life (NVVE). The so-called Life-end Clinic, which manages the teams, started in March last year with six teams. They are primarily intended for people that cannot obtain help from their GP for a euthanasia request. According to NVVE director Petra de Jong, more doctors have applied to the clinic in the recent period. This is among other reasons because the Health Minister is positive on the institution, she said. A team consists of a doctor and a nurse. GPs, specialists in geriatric medicine and interns and one psychiatrist are working for the clinic. |
